National Preparedness Month

9/4/2018 (Permalink)

It's National Preparedness Month! Yes that really is a thing. As a business owner, insurer or a property manager, you are a leader in your community and have the opportunity to set an example for your employees, customers, and community to follow.

Join your community in preparing for emergencies and disasters of all types, and leading efforts to encourage, the community as a whole to become more prepared. Disasters happen and not only devastate individuals and neighborhoods, but entire communities, including businesses of all sizes.

As an employer in your community, having a business continuity plan can help protect your company, its employees and its infrastructure, and maximizes your chances of recovery after an emergency or disaster. You can do this by taking three easy steps:

1) Plan to stay in business

2) Encourage your employees to become ready

3) Protect your investment

We must work together as a team to make sure that families, businesses, places of worship, and neighborhoods are ready, At Ready.gov/business, companies can find vital information on how to begin preparing their organization and addressing their unique needs during an emergency. You can contact SERVPRO of Eau Claire at 715-834-3473 or www.SERVPROeauclaire.com to find out more on how to be ready when disaster hits with the Emergency Ready Program.

Hoarding in the Chippewa Valley

2/2/2018 (Permalink)

Hoarding, what is it? What causes it? What can you do to help a loved one who you believe is a hoarder? What are the dangers? All questions that SERVPRO of Eau Claire Professionals are trained to answer, properly care for, and clean.

Did you know that Eau Claire County and SERVPRO of Eau Claire are leading Wisconsin in the fight to help those who hoard, and to bring awareness to the issue? The Eau Claire County Hoarding Task Force, with the guidance of the Hoarding Project, do just that. The task force is made up of a number of different government agencies as well as private businesses and community members, joining forces to help better our community.

It started when the Eau Claire Health Department and city police and fire departments got together to discuss what should be done with a couple cases that they three departments were working on. It was determined that the issues of hoarding go much deeper than a messy home, or someone that just collects a bunch of items. The city teamed up with several different entities and leaned upon several businesses and community members to form the most well rounded and knowledgeable group, equipped to tackle this issue.

The Eau Claire Hoarding Task Force now includes:

Catholic Charities

City of Eau Claire Police Department

Community Members

Consult an Organizer

Eau Claire School District

Eau Claire City/County Health Department

Eau Claire Department of Human Services

Eau Claire Fire and Rescue

HSHS Behavioral Health

Mayo Clinic Health Systems

SERVPRO of Eau Claire

and the task force receives information and training from The Hoarding Project in Tacoma, WA.
